General Knowledge
  1. The History of Yoga (Pre-Vedic through Medern) and The Paths of Yoga | Karma, Jnana, Bhakti, Raja
  2. How to read and interpret a variety of yogic texts and apply their philosophy to one's daily life, including familiarity with the yogic ethical concepts (yamas/niyamas) and principles as taught in the Yoga Sutras, the Bhagavad Gita & other texts.
  3. The form and function of basic anatomy systems (skeletal, cariovascular, respiratory) and basic physiology of Joints Mobility/Stability, Planes of Motion
  4. The energetic maps/systems of yoga including the Chakras, Koshas, and Kleshas and how they apply to one's personal path of self-realization.
  5. How the modern yoga industry works and how to confidently launch and sustain your teaching career.
Professional Knowledge
  1. How to sequence a yoga class using intelligent somatics, precise cueing, and biomechanically sound demonstrations
  2. The generally accepted definitions of "Yoga" and one's own perspectives on it.
  3. How to select the appropriate Pranayama practice for the theme and purpose of a yoga class.
  4. How to manage a classroom environment effectively
  5. How the nervous system functions and how to choose appropriate somatic practices(Pranayama, Yoga Nidra, Meditation, Posture Flow) to balance the collective nervous system.
Practice Skills
  1. Yoga Asana with an understanding of the 6 families of poses from Blissology Families of Poses.
  2. Vocal techniques to strengthen and properly rest your voice.
  3. Hands on Accommodations using "Move Through Yoga" Adaptive methodology.
  4. Ayurvedic principles to create balance in life—living powerfully in harmony with ritucharya (seasonal rhythms), your unique constitution, and the environment you engage with
  5. The core principles from Paramahansa Yogananda’s Path of Self-Realization to personal practice and teaching.
Teaching Skills
  1. The Hineni Yoga Foundations Sequence: A well rounded power yoga sequence.
  2. Using a variety of cueing techniques, ie verbal, directional, and postural demonstrations.
  3. Design and deliver an effective, well-rounded, all-levels yoga class that includes accommodations and adaptations for varied backgrounds, body compositions, and experience levels.
  4. A variety of Pranayama techniques including: Sama-Vritti, Ujjayi, Brahmari, Kapalabhati

AYC allows each school to state and evaluate the competencies each student acquires. Students rate how well the program delivered them.

Hineni Yoga School Testing & Assessment Requirements At Hineni Yoga School, we take a holistic and practical approach to student evaluation, ensuring our trainees are supported and empowered every step of the way. Our 200-Hour Yoga Teacher Training includes both formative and summative assessments, designed to reinforce learning and cultivate confidence in teaching. 1. Google Classroom Quizzes & Online Submissions Throughout the 10-week training, students complete regular quizzes, written assignments, and recorded video submissions in Google Classroom. These assessments support learning in anatomy, philosophy, cueing, sequencing, and teaching methodology. 2. 1:1 Mentorship & Ongoing Evaluation Students receive personalized mentorship throughout the training. These one-on-one sessions offer direct feedback, guidance, and opportunities for individualized assessment of teaching skills, integration, and professional growth. 3. Community Tapestry Class Each trainee teaches a ~10-minute section of a co-created public class. This shared teaching experience offers valuable real-time feedback in a live classroom setting. 4. Final Practicum: 60-Minute Sequence Submission As part of their final exam, students design, film, and submit a complete 60-minute yoga class, demonstrating their sequencing skills, cueing precision, and overall embodiment of the material. 5. Graduation Retreat Multiple Choice Exam At our in-person Graduation Retreat at Freebird Valley, students complete a ~50-question multiple choice exam covering anatomy, alignment principles, yoga philosophy, and teaching essentials. 6. Final Lecture or Workshop Presentation Each student prepares and delivers an ~8-minute lecture or mini-workshop on a yoga-related topic of their choice. This allows them to showcase their voice, depth of understanding, and creativity as a teacher. 7. Post-Graduation Audition & Practical Exam After graduation, students are invited to audition for teaching opportunities at partner studios. This ~20-minute live teaching audition is conducted in front of studio owners and Hineni Yoga School leadership as a final competency check.
